Queer Studies: Where Have We Been? Where Are We Going
A symposium convened by Noreen Giffney & Michael O'Rourke at University College Dublin, Ireland in October 2002. Speakers included Professor Myra J. Facilitators included Dr Darryl Jones, Eve Watson, Michael O'Rourke, Diarmuid Hester, Dr Noreen Giffney and Emma Radley. with a keynote address by Dr Patricia MacCormack on the third day.
 

Heterosexuality After Queer Theory
2 day-long symposia convened by Noreen Giffney and Michael O'Rourke at University College Dublin, Ireland in June 2006, and devoted to considering heterosexuality after work in feminism, lesbian and gay studies, and queer theory. Facilitators included Dr Katherine O'Donnell, Dr Anne Mulhall, Dr Noreen Giffney, Michael O'Rourke, Michael Cronin and Dr Kay Inckle. With a keynote lecture by Professor Calvin Thomas on the second day.

Subverting What? Perversion, Transgression and Normalisation in Queer Theory and Psychoanalysis
2 day-long symposia convened by Noreen Giffney and Michael O'Rourke at University College Dublin in February and March 2007, and devoted to considering four key concepts as they are used in queer theory - subversion, perversion, transgression and normalisation - primarily through the lens of psychoanalysis. Facilitators included Dr Anne Mulhall, Dr Ide Corley, Dr Declan Sheerin, Michael O'Rourke, Graham Price and Dr Noreen Giffney. With keynote lectures by Professor Lisa Downing and Professor Tim Dean on the second day.

2 day-long symposia convened by Noreen Giffney and Michael O'Rourke at University College Dublin in July 2007, and devoted to examining the inter-relationship between the work of Jacques Derrida and queer theory. Sexuality and the Death Drive: Reading Lee Edelman's No Future
A two-day intensive seminar convened by Noreen Giffney & Anne Mulhall at University College Dublin in July 2007, and devoted to discussing Lee Edelman's book, No Future, in the context of queer theory, psychoanalysis, lesbian and gay studies and feminist theory. Respondents and facilitators included Eve Watson, Michael O'Rourke, Dr Anne Mulhall, Dr Olga Cox Cameron, Dr Moynagh Sullivan, Dr Ide Corley, Emma Radley, Dr Noreen Giffney, Claire Bracken and Michael Cronin. With a plenary lecture by Professor Lee Edelman.

 
Sexuality & Phenomenology: Reading Sara Ahmed's Queer Phenomenology
A two-day intensive, interdisciplinary seminar devoted to reading Sara Ahmed's important book, Queer Phenomenology: Orientations, Objects, Others (Duke University Press, 2006), and convened by Noreen Giffney & Michael O'Rourke at University College Dublin in May 2008. Respondents and facilitators included Dr Jones Irwin, Dr Katherine Johnson, Dr Aislinn O'Donnell, Dr Felix O Murchadha, Eve Watson, Dr Jon Mitchell, Professor Eileen Joy, Dr Noreen Giffney, Professor Margot Backus, Michael O'Rourke, Dr Anne Mulhall. With a plenary lecture by Professor Sara Ahmed.

 
Gender, Sexuality & Bioethics
A 2-day international, interdisciplinary seminar on Wednesday 2 and Thursday 3 July 2008 with sessions on organ transplantation, intersex activism and studies, self-injury, reproductive rights, animal studies and the non/human, cosmetic surgery and performance art. Speakers included Professor Morgan Holmes (Wilfrid Laurier University, Canada), Dr Kay Inckle (The University of Dublin, Trinity College, Ireland), Dr Anat Pick (University of East London, UK), Dr Margrit Shildrick (Queen's University, Belfast, Northern Ireland) and Ailbhe Smyth (University College Dublin, Ireland).
