THE DUBLIN QUEER STUDIES GROUP
The Dublin Queer Studies Group was
established by Noreen Giffney and Michael O'Rourke in 2001 and they acted as conveners of the group during 2001-2002. The
Dublin Queer Studies Group developed out of the L/G/Q Studies Forum, which was convened in the Centre for Gender and Women's
Studies at the University of Dublin, Trinity College. The group's aim is to facilitate discussion among academics, postgraduates,
and anyone interested in queer theory/the study of sexuality.
Each session focuses on a theme (e.g. geography, popular
culture, history, philosophy) for which attendees read a chapter or article on the chosen theme and discuss it within the
context of queer theory. The group also acts as a forum for the presentation of papers by its members on topics of queer interest.
A different member chairs each session with special guest chairs for certain subjects (e.g. HIV/AIDS, performativity, race,
camp, feminism). New members are always welcome and there is no attendance fee.
